Cat5e and Cat6 work the same way, have the same type of RJ-45 connector, and can plug into any Ethernet jack on a computer, router, or similar device.Although they have many similarities, they have some differences, as shown in the following table:
As can be seen from the table, Cat5e network cable is used in gigabit Ethernet, the transmission distance can be up to 100m, can support 1000Mbps transmission speed.The Cat6 cable provides transmission speeds up to 10Gbps in the 250MHz bandwidth.
Cat5e and Cat6 both have a transmission distance of 100m, but with 10Gbase-T, the Cat6 can travel up to 55m.The main difference between Cat5e and Cat6 is transport performance.Cat6 lines have an internal separator to reduce interference or proximal crosswalk (NEXT). They also provide improved distal crosswalk (ELFEXT) and lower return loss and insertion loss compared to Cat5e lines.
As shown in the table, Cat6 can support up to 10G transmission speed and up to 250MHz frequency bandwidth, while Cat6a can support up to 500MHz frequency bandwidth, which is twice that of Cat6.The Cat7 cable supports up to 600MHz frequency bandwidth and also supports 10gbase-t Ethernet. In addition, the Cat7 cable significantly reduces crosswalk noise compared to Cat6 and Cat6a.
Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6a all have RJ45 connectors, but Cat7 has a special connector type: GigaGate45(CG45).Cat6 and Cat6a are currently approved by the TIA/EIA standards, but not Cat7. Cat6 and Cat6a are suitable for home use. Instead, if you are running more than one application, Cat7 is the best choice because it not only supports more than one application, but also provides better performance.
